Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A semi-naked body of a minor girl was discovered on Friday morning in a jungle near Lohar Bridge in New Town. The police reached the spot and recovered the body, which was then sent to RG Kar Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The identity of the girl has not yet been determined. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is available.
According to police sources, frothing was visible around the girl’s mouth. A partially peeled orange was found beside the body. The location where the body was discovered is about 30-40 meters inside an abandoned jungle, accessible through a narrow path near a canal. Investigators are probing how the girl reached the site, who may have taken her there, and whether she was sexually assaulted before her death.
Senior police officers, including an ACP-rank officer from Bidhannagar Police, Bidhannagar Police Deputy Commissioner (New Town Zone) Manav Singla, and the Detective Chief Inspector (DC) of Bidhannagar Police, visited the scene. A forensic team has been deployed for further examination. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being analyzed, and police are questioning locals to determine if any unusual activity was noticed before the body was found.
The police are investigating all possible angles, including abduction, sexual assault, and murder. Efforts are underway to identify the victim and trace her last movements. Authorities have urged anyone with information to assist in the investigation. Security measures in the area are also under review following the discovery.
